2.6 Million People Suffer From Diabetes In The Country - Health Director

HULU TERENGGANU, May 5 (Bernama) -- Approximately 2.6 million people or 15.2 per cent of the population in the country suffer from diabetes.

A National Health and Morbidity Study (NHMS) conducted by the Health Ministry in 2011 also found that in Terengganu, 68,581 people or 11.6 per cent of the population suffered from diabetes.

Terengganu Health Director Dr Mohamad Omar said the number of new diabetes cases detected in 2010 was 3,448 and this rose to 4,501 last year.

He said diabetes was a chronic disease which could be prevented and patients only needed to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
