PUTRAJAYA, April 3 (Bernama) -- The federal administrative capital, Putrajaya, will host the Time Ironman 70.3 Putrajaya for the second time this Sunday (April 5).

A statement from its sponsor, Time Fibre Optic Communications, said over 1,300 athletes from 55 countries around the world would participate in the challenge themed 'Race In Putrajaya, The Intelligent Garden City'.

International athletes make up 64 per cent of the participant list, with Malaysia having the largest participation, followed by Singapore, the statement said.

The Ironman 70.3 series refers to the total distance covered in the race in miles, which is 113 km, beginning with 1.9-km swim, 90-km cycling and end with 21-km run.

Ironman Asia-Pacific chief executive officer Geoff Meyer in a media conference in conjunction with the challenge here today said the number of triathletes in Malaysia had grown significantly from the first Ironman 70.3 Putrajaya last year.

Perbadanan Putrajaya Vice President (Finance) Datuk Rogaizat Abdullah, on the other hand, said with wide spaced roads, pedestrian walks and scenic view, Putrajaya would definitely provide one of the best landscapes for such event.
