SANDAKAN, April 1 (Bernama) -- The youths' participation in an association is capable of improving their self-esteem and leadership value.

Sabah Assistant Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Zakaria Mohd Edris said as future generation and leaders, it was important for the youth to join associations to gain exposure and increase knowledge in many aspects.

"Participation in an association will enable youths to spend their time with beneficial activities and at the same time help them to mature," he said at the certificate presentation and closing ceremony of the Youth Mind Transformation Camp programme here, Wednesday.

The three-day programme organised by the Sabah Job Centre and Sabah Resource Development and Information Technology Development Ministry was participated by 67 participants.

Zakaria said the state government always looked after the interest of the youths as well as appreciated their roles and contributions.

He cited the example of annual grants given to the youth organisations and the provision of a comprehensive development policy to generate success and excellence among youths.

He said the success and excellence of the youths did not depend on the efforts and commitment of the government alone, but required a high level of awareness among the youth to change and succeed.
