KUALA LUMPUR, March 30 (Bernama) -- Young people can now grab a chance to play a role in raising awareness for environmental protection in a creative way through the nationwide green competition for youths, Anugerah Hijau 2015.

Anugerah Hijau 2015 is organised by non-governmental organisation (NGO) EcoKnights, in collaboration with the education ministry and Agensi Inovasi Malaysia (AIM), as well as leading property developer, LBS Bina Group Berhad.

EcoKights president Yasmin Rasyid said the competition was aimed at giving opportunities to show talent and innovative skills in architecture, music and invention.

"The competition has three categories, namely Green Space (sustainable architecture), Green Music (environment-themed songs) and Green Innovation (creation of innovative and upcycled products) for those aged between 16 and 29," she told reporters after the launch of Anugerah Hijau 2015 here today.

Also present were the education ministry's co-curricular and arts division senior principal assistant director, Mohd Anuar Abdul Hamid, AIM social innovation executive vice-president Eddie Razak and LBS Bina Group Berhad executive director Datuk Cynthia Lim Mooi Pang.

Yasmin said 10 shortlisted finalists from each category would have the opportunity to attend a workshop in June this year before the results are announced on Oct 18.

Meanwhile, Lim said through the competition, young people were encouraged to put their ideas for a sustainable living space into practice.

"We also hope to gain from the winning concepts, perhaps to adapt and implement those new ideas in our development," she said.

Winners of each category will receive a RM3,000 cash prize, pewter trophy, book vouchers, eco products and a certificate, while first and second runners-up will receive RM2,000 and RM1,000, respectively, along with a pewter trophy, book vouchers, eco products and a certificate.

Participants aged between 16 and 29 can take part individually or in groups of three by submitting the online form with their respective proposals to the Anugerah Hijau official home page, http://anugerahhijau.my/ before June 28.
