PETALING JAYA, March 18 (Bernama) -- Former Liverpool FC (LFC) greats Robbie Fowler and Ian Rush will be among the players visiting Malaysia when the English Premier League (EPL) side make a return visit to the country.

LFC will take on a Malaysia XI side at the Bukit Jalil Stadium here on July 24, the only destination in South East Asia as part of the club's pre-season tour.

It will also be LFC's second visit to Malaysia after the grand reception they received in 2011.

LFC Commercial Director, Olly Dale said the match was part of the club's overall strategy to visit and revisit as many fans, no matter how far from Anfield they may live.

"We made the promise in 2011 that we will return to Malaysia after the tremendous support (we received)," he told a press conference, here, today.

The Reds beat Harimau Malaya 6-3 in the 2011 match at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium.

The match on July 24, to kick-off at 8.45 pm, is organised by Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) and promoted by ProEvents International Sdn Bhd.

Meanwhile, FAM General-Secretary, Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin said it was a great honour to have Liverpool in Malaysia.

"Four years ago, an estimated 80,000 fans witnessed Liverpool triumph 6-3 over a Malaysian XI side.

"It is not that often we get to see EPL stars up-close and personal. We watch them in awe on our television sets as they take on their opponents, mesmerising them with their gifted football skills," he said.

Commenting on the stadium's pitch condition, he said the match would be played after the renovation works were concluded in May.

ProEvents Group Chief Executive Officer, Julian Kam said since Kuala Lumpur was the only destination for the Brendan Rodgers side in South East Asia, fans from Malaysia and also from neighbouring countries such as Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam were expected to come.

"The tickets for the Malaysia XI-Liverpool FC match will go on sale at a later date via our ticketing partner, Ticketpro, and more details will be announced in April," he said.
