Kuantan Windsurfing & Kitesurfing Challenge Draws 60 Local And Foreign Participants

KUANTAN, Feb 18 (Bernama) -- The two-day Kuantan Windsurfing & Kitesurfing Challenge to be held at the Batu Hitam Beach starting Saturday is expected to attract more than 60 local and foreign participants.

Organising committee manager Kamarudin Ibrahim said the challenge which will feature the Windsurfing and Kitesurfing events will see 15 foreign participants from Thailand, Singapore, Indonesia and England competing.

"Five categories will be contested, namely Short Board and Race Board in(Windsurfing); Open, Novice and Youngest Sailor in Kitesurfing," he told Bernama, here Wednesday.

Apart from promoting the sport that initially made its way into the country as a holiday activity in the 90s, the challenge is also part of efforts to introduce the Batu Hitam Beach to foreign tourists.

He added that the challenge could become an annual event in the Pahang Tourism calendar in view of the Visit Pahang Year 2017.
