12 Local Golfers Earn Tickets To Play In 2015 Maybank Malaysian Open

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 10 (Bernama) -- Eleven local professional golfers and one amateur earned tickets play in the Maybank Malaysian Open golf championship, to be held from Feb 5 to 8, next year.



The professional golfers are Nicholas Fung, Danny Chia, Iain Steel, Shaaban Hussin, Ben Leong, R. Nachimuthu, Airil Rizman Zahari, Sukree Othman, Khor Kheng Hwai, Kemarol Baharin and Arie Fauzi.



According to the organiser, Malaysia's top ranked amateur, Gavin Kyle Green has already secured his berth among the four slots on offer for amateurs.



"The Malaysian names announced today are not required to compete for a spot at this national Open at the National Qualifiers, that will be held on Nov 18 and 19 at KLGCC (Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club) since they have qualified through their rankings," said the organiser in a statement, today.



It noted that four spots are available through a two-day National Qualifier.



As in the previous edition, 22 local golfers would have the opportunity to play in the prestigious golf tournament which includes 10 from the Asian Tour and PGM Tour; four national qualifiers; three sponsors invite; one Maybank Tour Championship winner and four amateurs selected by the Malaysia Golf Association.



The Maybank Malaysian Open has over the years attracted world-class golfers from all over and have made its mark with past performances by the likes of Peter Thomson, Vijay Singh, Padraig Harrington, Retief Goosen, Michael Campbell and Sir Nick Faldo.
