PUTRAJAYA, Sept 24 (Bernama) -- Veteran singer Datuk DJ Dave has released a new single dedicated to the Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 and MH370 victims.

Communication and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek, who launched the special single here today, said DJ Dave's effort should be commended and emulated by other singers in the country.

"The single, which can be purchased as caller ringtones, is indeed a creative way to give fellow Malaysians the opportunity to show their support and extend their sympathies to the families of those involved in the MH17 and MH370 tragedies," he said.

The minister also said all proceeds from the sale of the single would go to the victims' next-of-kin.

DJ Dave, whose real name is Datuk Irwan Shah Abdullah, said he came up with the idea of composing the song for the victims after being so moved by the two aviation tragedies that struck the nation this year.

He said the lyrics, however, was written by Habsah Hassan, and the music arrangement was done by Belle Fatah.

Flight MH17 crashed in eastern Ukraine on July 17 as it was flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur with 283 passengers and 15 crew on board.

The Boeing 777-200 aircraft is believed to have been shot down over the troubled country.

Besides Malaysians, nationals from the Netherlands, Australia, Indonesia, the United Kingdom, Germany, Belgium, the Philippines, Canada and New Zealand were among the 298 passengers and crew on board.

Meanwhile, flight MH370 dropped off radar on March 8 as it flew from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 227 passengers and 12 crew on board.

The Boeing 777 aircraft has yet to be found, even after an exhaustive search in the southern Indian Ocean where it is believed to have gone down after veering off course.
