KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 14 (Bernama) -- KL Converge! 2014, an event set on a digital content and creative industry platform from Sept 17 to 19 is hoped to open the eyes of many on the future and opportunities available.

Minister of Communications and Multimedia Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said the event would give an opportunity to all quarters to acquire knowledge from the relevant local and foreign experts and authorities.

"We will be able to make comparisons on the development of the digital platform in other countries, for example learn about the development of broadband and others," he said after visiting the preparation for KL Converge! at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre here, Sunday.

Among the big names to take part in the three-day conference are Namik Malhotra, namely, a special effect expert for the film 'Transformer' and Roger Christian who won the Academy Award for the 'Star Wars' film set.

Ahmad Shabery said other than the conference, KL Converge! will also have exhibitions from industry players, including from Asean, India and Japan among others, to showcase infrastructure, applications, broadband, content and films.

According to Ahmad Shabery, among those expected to draw attention are sessions to teach industry players techniques to deliver or sell their ideas to interested parties in a minute.

"This aspect is seen as among the weaknesses of some of our industry players in Malaysia," he said.

He said the KL Converge! event adopted a casual concept which was the culture of the Silicon valley, United States, whereby those who turned up need not dress formally.

Silicon Valley was the base for many renowned technology companies of the world.

"Students and those involved in the creative industry such as film makers, musicians, writers and the public should come and be part of this iconic activity," said Ahmad Shabery.

KL Converge! jointly organised by the Communications and Multimedia Ministry, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission and National Film Development Corporation, is being held with the aim of generating interest and attention on opportunities in the industry.
