UTM KL Racing Team To Enter 'Rimaulaya' Car In Student Formula Japan

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 (Bernama) -- Universiti Teknologi Malaysia Kuala Lumpur (UTM KL) Racing will field its own racing car 'Rimaulaya' in the Student Formula Japan (SFJ) 2014 competition, held from Sept 2 to 6 in Shizouka, Japan.

Head of the UTM KL Racing team, Muhammad Taufiq Md Zin said this was the first time the university and Malaysia were participating in the competition.

"Our team will be taking part in the Internal Combustion category. We took six months to prepare, " he told reporters after the launch of the 'Rimaulaya' in Kuala Lumpur, Tuesday.

Meanwhile, director of the UTM KL campus, Prof Dr Hamdani Saidi said the 'Rimaulaya' which was fully built by diploma engineering students and lecturers using the Yamaha R6 600cc engine could achieve a speed of 0 to 60km per hour in seven seconds.

"With this speed, we hope to win the championship," he said.
