New Zealand University Launches Scholarship Fund For Students From Asia

SINGAPORE, Aug 15 (Bernama) -- Malaysia is one of 12 Asian countries whose students can apply for financial aid from the NZ$1-million (RM2.69-million) international scholarship fund of the University of Waikato in Hamilton, New Zealand.

The University of Waikato Excellence Scholarship for Asia will provide pre-degree (foundation), undergraduate and postgraduate students with scholarships of up to $10,000 (RM26,900).

The offer is also available to students from China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

Ziena Jalil, regional director for South and South East Asia, Education New Zealand, said the University of Waikato Excellence Scholarship for Asia would give many Asian students the opportunity to study at a highly regarded New Zealand university.

The University of Waikato was ranked 44th in the influential Times Higher Education Top 100 'Under 50' list.

"Top courses include Education, Modern Languages, Economics and Econometrics, Law, and Computer Science and Info Systems. The university offers new thinking, quality career pathways and a vibrant student lifestyle in New Zealand's beautiful North Island," she said in a statement.

The scholarships for international students will be awarded to those who demonstrate academic excellence, intend to begin their studies at the university next year, and hold an offer from the university in any subject area.
