KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 (Bernama) -- The International Islamic University (IIUM) today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Princess of Naradhiwas University (PNU) Thailand to strengthen academic and social development programmes.

The MoU will also enhance mutual co-operation in training and students activities for five years starting this year, including student exchange, placement of short-term training to the academic staff and students.

The MoU was signed by IIUM deputy rector for International, Industry and Community Relations Prof Dr Abdel Aziz Berghout and PNU president Assoc Prof Dr Chongrak Palasai.

Some 40 IIUM students would be send to attend short-term basis student exchange programmes at the PNU university, Abdel Aziz said.

In another development, Abdel Aziz said IIUM targets 900 students to go global through the mobility programme by the end of this year.

He said the mobility programmes which include student exchange, academic transfer credit and cultural visit would be a good approach to all students in developing skills, knowledge and experience.

"This is a big number for us because two years before we had around 200 students, last year 600 students, and now we are moving forward, maybe two to three years we can send 2,000 students through this programmes," he said.
