MMU Indian Cultural Society Brings Varsity Sportsmen Together Via Football Tournament

Melaka -- The Indian Cultural Society of Multimedia University (MMU) organized an Intervarsity Football Tournament taken place on the 4 to 6 July 2014.

The three-day national level football tournament was officiated by the former Chief Minister of Melaka, Datuk Seri Haji Mohd Ali Rustam and State Deputy Chairman and EXCO member of the Melaka state assembly, Datuk. M.S Mahadevan Sanacy.

A total of 10 teams from nine different higher education institutions participated in the tournament.

MMU (A), MMU (B), Uniten Putrajaya, Uniten Muadzam Shah, Institut Perguruan Temenggung Ibrahim, Politeknik Sultan Azlan Shah, Universiti Teknikal Malaysia, UTAR, Universiti Putra Malaysia and Universiti Utara Malaysia took part in the tournament that carried its primary objective to create a good bonding between all the University students and encourage the participation of students in sports.

According to the president of Indian Cultural Society, Boovenswaran Munusamy, "The vision of this tournament is to support and acknowledge the football teams of IPTA and IPTS nationwide and to create an opportunity for the teams to bring out the hidden talents of each football players on the national stage".

The captain of MMU (A), Amares Singh, added in the support of the statement by Boovenswaran Munusamy said, "It was a delightful feeling becoming the champion of the tournament as the teammates have trained hard for it in a very short period’.

"The reason behind the success lies in the determination and commitment from the team. Plus when one of our players’ fractured his leg, it gave us a wake up call and boost to win the game for him," he added.

MMU (A) has emerged as the champion of the Intervarsity Football Tournament 2014 and walked away with the cash prize of RM3000 together with trophy and certificate.
