Kartun Studios, KRU's 11th Subsidiary

CYBERJAYA -- KRU Group of Companies (KRU) took another big step Wednesday with the launch of its 11th subsidiary, Kartun Studios Sdn Bhd, which will specialise in producing 2D and 3D animated products for children.

KRU chief executive officer Norman Abdul Halim said apart from producing animated products for local and international markets, the setting up of the subsidiary was aimed at developing high-skilled talents in animation sector.

"Our target is to produce three animated films within the next five years, as well as 130 of 3D animated series and 130 of 2D animated series, or maybe more if we can get more workers," he told reporters after the launch of the studio by Communication and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek here Wednesday, June 18.

Norman said the first animated film produced by the studio was 'Ribbit', which would be showcased in 80 countries, including in the United States, United Kingdom, Russia, Germany and Australia, starting on Sept 4.

He said the film had also been invited to be showcased as World Premiere at the Niagara Integrated Film Festival, Canada on June 21.

"We hope more products of Kartun Studios will be able to penetrate international market," he said, adding that KRU was in the midst of making final preparations to open its office in the United States.
