
'Oh Perempuanku', A Soulful Adaptation Of Ibsen To A Play

Kuala Lumpur â University of Malaya final year students majoring in the Performing Arts recently showcased a successfully adaptation of one of the works of a famous playwright as their year-end project.
The project was transformed into a play carrying a title âOh Perempuankuâ.
âOh Perempuankuâ is a translation of an adapted version of the masterpiece âA Dollâs Houseâ by Henrik Ibsen.
The fundamental idea of this play focuses on the relationship between a husband and his wife in the context of marital, social, family and moral values.
However the director of this show, Mr. Norhan Fahmi Ahmad Mahmud had made few alterations in the story in order to represent few local touches in the play.
âIt took two semesters for me and my crew to work on this play as we need to work on the script and rehearse the play,â Fahmi added.
âThe main challenge that I faced was getting my cast and crew committed as they have lots of classes and assignments.â
The lead cast Ms. Yip Hui Ting, a final year student of performing arts, commented that it was not an easy task carrying the main role in the play. The role required her to adapt her emotion in a short period of time in every scene.
âYou just need to believe in yourself in order to be successful in the field of Performing Artsâ, advised Hui Ting to those who wish to pursuit in this field.
