Sazali Eyeing 10th World Title In Mumbai

KUALA LUMPUR, May 12 (Bernama) -- Nine times world bodybuilding champion Sazali Abd Samad is confident of completing a double by winning the Mr Asia and Mr Universe titles to complete a perfect score of 10.

The 47-year-old sub-inspector said his thirst and hunger for titles, despite having won the Mr Asia eight times and Mr Universe nine times, had not faded.

The Mr Asia 2014 championships is scheduled in June and hosted by Macau while the Mr Universe championships will be held in Mumbai, India in November.

"Competition has been always stiff since I won the first Mr Asia title in 1996 and I see competitors from Iran as the main threat. Apart from Iran, there are also strong contestants from Iraq, Vietnam and India," he told Bernama, here Monday.

Sazali said his main target would be to reduce his current body weight from 79kg to 75, because he would be competing in the 75kg category.

"GOD willing, with the formula and routine set by my coach Milos Sarcev from Serbia), I hope to reduce my weight to 75kg. I have also sought the assistance of a dietician from the National Sports Council (NSC) and treatment from the National Sports Institute (NSI)," he said.

He claimed his first Mr Universe title in the 65kg category (bantamweight) in Melaka in 2000, followed by wins in Moscow (2004) and Ostrava, Czech Republic (2006).

Sazali moved up to the lightweight (70kg) category and won it on his first attempt in Jeju, South Korea (2007) before victories in Dubai (2009), Varanasi, India (2010), Melaka (2011), Bangkok (2012) and Budaors in Hungary, last year.

He won the Mr Asia in 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2004, 2009, 2010 and 2012.
