Standard Chartered, Sony, WeChat Join Hands To Reach Gen-Y

PETALING JAYA -- Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia Bhd, Sony Mobile Communications and WeChat Malaysia have joined hands to reach out to the millennial generation (Gen-Y) demographic.

Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia Head of Retail and Personal Banking Amnah Ajmal said the collaboration would enable the bank to leverage on the social media and diversify their approach to reach and engage customers, especially the Gen-Y.

In the partnership, Sony Mobile will offer Sony's SmartBand, a health monitoring device, to all marathoners who will be participating in the Standard Chartered Kuala Lumpur Marathon at a special price, said Amnah to a media conference announcing the collaboration on Thursday.

The marathon, to be held on October 12, will cover distances of between 10km to 42 km, in the city centre.

With the tagline "Confident, Committed, Courageous," the marathon is offering 35,000 slots to the public.

Customers and marathoners who has a WeChat account will get live updates of the event and are entitled to receive RM100 discount for Sony SmartBand.

At the same event, Standard Chartered also launched its JustOne Marathon Bonus Promotion, which entitles customers to sign up and receive discounts to purchase Sony's latest products, the Sony SmartBand or Sony Xperia phones.

"The partnership is not only for the marathon as we want it to extend beyond the marathon event," she said.
