Three Students Receive Bank Negara Kijang Emas Scholarship

KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 (Bernama) -- Three outstanding students, who excelled academically and succeeded in co-curricular activities and sports, today received this year's Bank Negara Malaysia Kijang Emas Scholarship.

Bank Negara Governor Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz said Justin Lim Kai Ze, Nurizati Ali and Alicia Grace Loh Ern Hui also showed leadership skills and strong personality.

In her speech, she said talent development strategies, as well as, implementation, were the key priorities for the country.

"While the global economy continues to face uncertainties and significant challenges, the Malaysian economy has every potential to remain on a steady growth trajectory and move up the value chain.

"This is, however, only achievable if we can nurture the required talent," she told reporters after the scholarship award ceremony here today.

Having just completed their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia, Justin and Nurizati would enrol into a pre-university programme, while physically challenged Alicia would pursue her undergraduate studies.

Alicia has successfully obtained a conditional offer to read law at the prestigious University of Cambridge and is the first pre-university candidate selected for the scholarship.

Meanwhile, Justin aspires to be a doctor and Nurizati is keen to study dietetics.

Bank Negara received 331 applications for this year's Kijang Emas scholarship which represented 82 per cent of the 405 straight A students in the country.

To date, 42 high potential talents have been awarded the Kijang Emas scholarship and were currently pursuing their studies in diverse field of studies including medicine, biochemistry, physics, engineering, law and architecture in top universities around the world.
