KUALA LUMPUR -- A famous Saudi poet, Nimah Ismail Nawwab praised Malaysia's treatment of its women and youth, who are given fair opportunity to play an important role in the country's development.

Nimah said she was impressed with the rights and opportunities given to them.

Malaysia could be a role model for Saudi Arabia in terms of ensuring that women and youth could contribute meaningfully to society, she told Bernama after attending a public lecture at the International Institute of Advanced Islamic Studies (IAIS), here, Tuesday.

The public lecture was organised by IAIS and Malaysia Muslim Youth Movement (ABIM) with the topic, 'Women and Youth in Saudi Arabia: Current Realities'.

Nimah said: "The very interesting thing about Malaysia I find is its diversity of religious faith.

"Malaysia has always been proud as a Muslim country and the women and youth are able to be involved; to plan and to participate in the country's development. It is very impressive.

"I know personally that the women and youth have made great strides in Malaysia, and they are still seeking more opportunities, and I think this is great for Malaysia," she added.
