ARAU, April 11 (Bernama) -- Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) has become the second university in Malaysia to receive the 3-star QS Stars rating by the London-based world varsities rating agency, QS Intelligence Unit.

The first Malaysian university to receive the 3-star QS Stars rating was Universiti Teknologi Petronas.

"As a university which had only celebrated its seventh anniversary, this is indeed a very proud achievement because the 3-star rating is usually given to universities aged over 20 years," UniMAP vice-chancellor Datuk Prof Dr Kamarudin Hussin told a press conference here Friday.

He said the 3-star rating was given based on evaluation into eight main aspects, namely teaching, facilities, networking, internationalisation, graduates employability, culture and community involvement, research, as well engineering and technology.

Kamarudin said UniMAP scored 5-star rating for teaching and facilities and 4-star rating for its networking.

"The 5-star rating for learning given by the QS Stars is in line with the 5-star rating given to UniMAP by the Rating System for Malaysian Higher Education Institutions (SETARA)," he said.

He said the 4-rating for networking, on the other hand, proved that UniMAP was on the right track to forge a stronger cooperation with other world-class universities.

"UniMAP is now aimed at being among the 500 top universities in the world by 2020," he said.
