13 Melaka-born athletes get RM146,000 in incentives for Sea Games medals

MELAKA, Feb 4 -- The state government has given incentives worth RM146,000 to 13 Melaka-born athletes who won medals at the 30th SEA Games in the Philippines.

They each received RM10,000 for a gold medal, RM8,000 for a silver and RM6,000 for a bronze.

Chief Minister Adly Zahari presented the incentives at a ceremony here today, witnessed by state Exco for Communications, Multimedia, Non-Governmental Organisations and Youth and Sports Development Kerk Chee Yee and Melaka Sports Council director Arrifin Mohd Ghani.

At the SEA Games held from Nov 30 to Dec 11 last year, the athletes won five gold, six silver and eight bronze medals in individual and team events.

The biggest winner was badminton player Aaron Chia, who took home RM18,000 for winning the gold medal in men's doubles and silver in the team event.
