NEW DELHI, Jan 13 -- An enthusiastic response greeted Kuala Lumpur-based Sutra Foundation artistes on their recent tour of India.

Malaysia's leading exponent of the Odissi Indian classical dance Datuk Ramli Ibrahim and his group of artistes performed the Odissi dance show Ganjam in southern India for the first time.

"It was clearly our best performance of Ganjam in Chennai. We had a great audience," he told Bernama.

The show in Puducherry received a standing ovation, he added.

The tour began on Dec 27 in New Delhi and culminated in Puducherry on Jan 6.

"I was involved in two talks and discussions at the music academy in Chennai, and in Puducherry we gave several demonstrations and informal performances involving schoolchildren," Ramli said.

His show in the north Indian city of Chandigarh attracted many bureaucrats and was well-covered in the local press.
