GEORGE TOWN, Jan 11 -- Passersby and nearby residents at the Sia Boey Archeological Park, here, were in awe after witnessing the inflation of an unmanned hot air balloon at the central capital of Penang, yesterday.

The spectacular view of the hot air balloon was also greeted with hundreds of miniature, paper-craft hot air balloons lighting up the whole park as lanterns.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said that the occasion was one of the pre-events set up to welcome the sixth edition of Penang Hot Air Balloon Fiesta (HAB), which would be held on Feb 1 and 2 at Padang Polo, here.

He said that HAB 2020 would feature 15 colourful hot air balloons from 10 countries in two sessions, morning and evening, on both days.

Meanwhile, HAB main organiser Izzati Nur Khairuddin said that other pre-events featuring hot air balloons would 'pop-up' from various locations in both island and mainland, namely Bayan Lepas, Paya Terubong, Butterworth and Bukit Mertajam.

While the exact locations of the 'balloon pop-up' events were unannounced, the programme would be held on Jan 31 between 7am to 9am.

“We will announce the exact spots of the balloon pop-up events in a week on our social media page,” she added.
