YUTP raises RM700,000 for scholarship fund

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 10 -- Yayasan Universiti Teknologi Petronas (YUTP) raised more than RM700,000 for its scholarship fund at the Tapestry of Colours charity dinner here tonight.

Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) Prof Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib said the contributions came from corporate and individual sponsors, with the main sponsors being, among others, Dialog Group Berhad, Seadrill, TechnipFMC, Conocophillips, Synerlitz Sdn Bhd, UTP Alumni, Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Minister Yeo Bee Yin under the 'Special Minister’s allocation'.

“As of today, 1,736 scholarships and bursaries have been awarded since 2010.

“In providing opportunities to pursue education amongst Malaysians, YUTP is actively building its scholarship fund, in particular to award education grants and bursaries to underprivileged students,” he said in his speech at the dinner.

At the event, YUTP also launched the ‘I SHARE’ campaign with the objective of raising funds totalling RM75 million over five years.

Mohamed Ibrahim said the philanthropic outcome of this campaign would sustain efforts to help deserving students achieve their academic dreams.
