MELAKA, Jan 1  -- Melaka United Soccer Association (MUSA) is eyeing a top four finish in the Super League this season and possibly a title to go with it, said its president Damian Yeo Shen Li.

He said MUSA believed that it has prepared a strong squad with a mix of experienced and young players who are the future of the state football.

"Despite its (limited) financial resources, MUSA believes the team it has formed has a great spirit to fight in this upcoming season. There is nothing impossible to achieve; MUSA even believes that Melaka United will be able to take on world-leading teams in the future.

"I am determined to take on this responsibility as a one-on-one goal in making the Melaka United brand known worldwide," said the Duyong state assemblyman in a statement here today.

Melaka United, coached by former Malaysian international Zainal Abidin Hassan, finished sixth in the Malaysian Super League last season and led group D in the Malaysia Cup before losing to Pahang on a 1-6 aggregate in the quarter-finals.

Yeo said he is aware that most of the Hang Tuah supporters dream of seeing the team play in a cup final in Bukit Jalil and MUSA would do its best to make this a reality soon.

"It is not wrong for us to have dreams that may be quite impossible for us to achieve. However, we must always be positive to make that impossible dream a reality," he said.

As a long-term development, the management is considering to acquire the naming rights of the Hang Jebat Stadium so that it can remain as the official Melaka United home ground, he said.

He also said grassroots development is one of the cornerstones to keep the team competitive.

"As such, it is the intention of MUSA's management under my leadership to set up a Melaka United Football Academy with the #Mission04 slogan, which will highlight the potential for young talent to be showcased in addition to giving Melaka's children the opportunity to play football," he said.

Yeo said MUSA is also working on several initiatives to generate revenue for the team.

"This new administration is actively promoting seasonal passes with a variety of benefits for its supporters, online ticket sales and the introduction of the sports tourism sector which I believe will ensure a better administration in 2020," he said.
