Robot Sophia welcomes KL Summit 2019 participants

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 19 — Sophia, the social humanoid robot made a special appearance to welcome delegates at the official launch of the Kuala Lumpur Summit (KL Summit) 2019, at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) here.

Clad in a dark blue-black gown, her appearance grabbed the audiences’ attention.

In her short speech, she thanked Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah for launching KL Summit 2019.

“I would also like to say how excited I am to share the same hall with the Head of States from Qatar, Iran, Turkey, and Malaysia. It is an honour to witness such a spirit of international cooperation. 

“I am impressed by the world leaders together in Malaysia, how this important discussion about the development of Islamic countries and Muslims everywhere. With that, I wish you all a productive KL Summit 2019,” she said.

Also present at the launch was the Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.

Also in attendance were Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, The Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

At the launch, a video presentation was also shown portraying the Muslim world.

The KL meeting kicked off last night with a welcoming dinner during which Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the summit is being held as it is felt that something has to be done to improve the lives of Muslims the world over.

The four-day summit themed ‘The Role of Development in Achieving National Sovereignty’, aims to, among others, discuss and find new solutions to problems facing the Muslim world as well as to improve the wellbeing of Muslims and Muslim countries in general.
