SEPANG, Dec 12 -- Malaysian team Yamaha Sepang Racing will start the FIM Endurance World Championship (EWC) Sepang 8 Hours race from the pole position after topping the top 10 trial at the Sepang Circuit today.

Italian Franco Morbidelli recorded the fastest time of 2:04.647s to finish ahead of Thailand’s Somkiat Chantra of Honda Asia-Dream Racing with SHOWA, who recorded 2:05.440s.

F.C.C. TSR Honda France took the third position when Josh Hook recorded a time of 2:05.484s.

At the Sepang 8 Hours, the quickest rider of each of the 10 fastest teams in qualifying would once again take to the track for one flying lap to determine his team's final grid position.

"The feeling seems to be that there is a little bit of fight with Honda; our pace is a bit better but they are more experienced in this race (EWC).

"We will try our best in the race on Saturday," he said.

Morbidelli, who teamed up with Malaysian MotoGP rider Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah and three-time Suzuka 8 Hours champion Michael Van der Mark, recorded an average best lap time of 2:04.429s after two qualifying sessions.

Yamaha Sepang Racing dominated the first qualifying session this morning with a magnificent lap of 2:03.907s by Morbidelli, quicker than F.C.C. TSR Honda France and YART Yamaha.

The home team maintained the lead after the second qualifying session when Van der Mark clocked a time of 2:05.614s, ahead of the same teams respectively.

The EWC Sepang 8 Hours will resume on Saturday at 1pm.
