LANGKAWI, Dec 9 -- A total of 43,520 primary and secondary school students from the B40 group and the poor nationwide will benefit from the Back To School 2020 Programme organised by Yayasan Pelajaran Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA).

Rural Development Minister Datuk Seri Rina Mohd Harun said it involved cost of RM3.2 million, including contributions from strategic partners, including the private sector.

For this programme, we also work with  the district education offices and the local community to identify students eligible for the aid, she told reporters after  launching the programme at the Langkawi MARA Junior Science College here today.

Also present at the event were Kedah Information, Communications and Multimedia and Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) Committee chairman  Mohd Firdaus Ahmad, who is also Kuah assemblyman.

Rina said recipients of the aid under the programme would receive voucher for exercise books, stationery and school bag worth RM50 for primary school students and RM70 for secondary school students.

“It is hoped that the contribution will help to reduce the parents’ financial burden in preparing  their children’s school needs for the new school session,” she added.

At today’s programme, Rina said 1,000 students from 28 schools in the Langkawi parliamentary constituency received school aid, worth RM88,000.
