UKM, IPPTAR to offer masters programme in strategic communication

BANGI, Nov 19 -- Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) through its Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSK) will offer a Master's Degree programme in Strategic Communication to the public as early as the first quarter of 2020, said Dean of the FSSK Professor Dr Hazita Azman.

Towards making the programme a success, the FSSK and UKM's Centre for Research in Media and Communication (MENTION) signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Tun Abdul Razak Broadcasting Institute (IPPTAR) in 2017.

"This is an important step towards ensuring the visibility of UKM as a prestigious institution of higher learning and IPPTAR as an important training centre for media and communication," Dr Hazita said in her welcoming remarks at the 16th International Conference on Media and Communication 'MENTION 2019' here, today.

Further details on the programme are expected to be announced soon.

Meanwhile, today's event was aimed at looking at the current scenario and trends in the media and journalism world.

The Director of MENTION 2019 conference, Associate Professor Dr Abdul Latiff Ahmad said the biennial conference hoped to find new insights and solutions through the sharing of research findings and studies undertaken in the media and communication field.

Themed "Media and Communication in a changing world", the objective of the conference is to outline the current issues, transformations and convergence that have affected the media and communication sector, he said.

Research studies from academics all around the world including from New Zealand and Indonesia will be shared, he said.

About 100 participants including local media practitioners, industry players and postgraduate students attended the event.
