KV Keningau wins silver at Advanced Innovation Global Competition in Singapore

KOTA KINABALU, Nov 18 -- Keningau Vocational (KV) College won a silver medal  at the three-day Advanced Innovation Global Competition held at the National University of Singapore.

The team comprising three students from the Automotive Technology programme namely Mohd Akmal Hadi Haidon, Joel Damillie and Herichller Wong was accompanied by teachers,  Amirullah Abdul Karim and Niel Solimin.

Apart from the Malaysian team, students from China, Japan, Ukraine, Egypt, Vietnam, the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia and Singapore also participated in the competition which ended yesterday.

KV Keningau Head of Research and Innovation Sirhajwan Idek said the team presented a Fuel Injector Cleaning Device which is a more efficient and safe to operate fuel injection cleaning tool and much cheaper to produce, compared to other cleaning tools available in  the market.

He said the innovation which was the students’ final year project had won a prize during a competition held at the Sabah Design and Innovation Exhibition last year and was among finalists at the Sabah Zone Intellectual Property Awards for the same year.

According to him KV Keningau had been actively participating in such innovative competitions as the this could strengthen outcome-based education in vocational and technical studies and training.

"This is crucial in preparing students for the real world and the ever-changing work environment," he told Bernama.

He said KV Keningau students have also been participating in competitions in Thailand, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Australia and have won various medals and prizes at the global level.
