'Robotic inventions of competition winners should be commercialised'

BANGI, Nov 3 -- The robotic inventions of winners of the Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UNiKL) International Robattle Competition 2019 should be commercialised.

In making this call today, Yayasan Bank Rakyat general manager Norashikin Shaharudin said this move would spur other youngsters to be interested in robotics and become entrepreneurs and job creators in the future.   

Norashikin was speaking at the closing ceremony of the competition at the UniKL Malaysia France Institute here today. 

This is the second year that the foundation served as the main sponsor of the competition which is in its fourth edition.

Meanwhile, UniKL president and chief executive officer Datuk Dr Mazliham Mohd Su’ud said the competition had seen a steady increase in the number of competitors, since its inception.

This year's competition saw the participation of 67 teams made up of about 250 participants from public and private institutions of higher learning, as well as students from primary and secondary schools.

The 'Spiderhead' team from Kolej Kemahiran Tinggi Mara Balik Pulau emerged overall winner with their combat robot - they took home a cash prize of RM2,000.
