Man Kidal dreams of solo concert at Istana Budaya

PETALING JAYA, Sept 9 -- Undoubtedly, when the Malaysian rock scene is mentioned, a few stand-out legends would immediately come to mind – one of which is Man Kidal and this lead guitarist needs no introduction as he has been entertaining the masses with his trademark guitar riffs for the past four decades.
Alongside his bandmates in popular rock group Lefthanded, they have been churning hit songs one after such as Tiada Lagi Kidungmu, Ku Di Halaman Rindu, Seruan and Debunga Wangi, just to mention a few.
Despite having enjoyed many successes with Lefthanded as well as on his personal capacity via his solo outings, Man Kidal or his real name Rahman Mahmood, 55, still has deep desire to continue performing for his fans.
As such, he dreamed of a solo concert that he hoped would complement his journey as a musician.
“I really like to perform (solo concert) but it is not easy due to high cost (or organising such concert) but I believe the time will come,” he told Bernama recently.
Man Kidal, who was born in Skudai, Johor, also hoped that his dream concert would feature great singers such as Datuk Ramli Sarip, Datuk M. Nasir, Datuk Jamal Abdillah, Ella, Ruth Sahanaya and D' Masiv apart from other guest musicians including the inimitable Hillary Ang of Search, Joe Wings, Sham Kamikaze and Rody Crystal.
Asked about the concert venue, Man Kidal said he would love to perform at the prestigious Istana Budaya.
“I have performed at the Istana Budaya several times so I know the venue well such as the stage and so on.
“The ideal location of Istana Budaya will also provide a sense of comfort to the audience that will enable them to appreciate my performance,” said the proud grandfather to nine grandchildren.
Hence, Man Kidal invited interested parties for possible partnership to help realise his dream of making the concert a success.
Meanwhile, Man Kidal also admitted that his stunning performance of playing the national anthem Negaraku in front of over 80,000 spectators before the kick-off of the FA Cup final between Kedah and Perak at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium in July, was one of the most rewarding experience he has ever had.
“Although I have played thousands of songs, the opportunity to play Negaraku was very challenging as I performed before members of royal families and thousands of spectators in the stadium.
“I never thought I would get the chance to play Negaraku with my own guitar and it was one of my life’s most memorable experience,” he added.
On the latest development, Man Kidal was currently busy preparing for the Lefthanded reunion concert series to be held in December at several locations throughout the country.
Man Kidal also announced that he would also be filming the story of Lefthanded later this year which was slated to go live online next year.
