4,362 students offered places at UMS

KOTA KINABALU, Sept 3 -- A total of 4,362 students have been offered places at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) for the 2019/2020 intake.

UMS vice-chancellor Prof Dr Taufiq Yap Yun Hin said the number comprised 2,570 students or 59 per cent from Sabah, 1,690 students (39 per cent) from Peninsular Malaysia and Sarawak, and 102 (two per cent) international students.

He said the international students came from 14 countries, including 72 from China, Brunei (nine), Indonesia (six), Bangladesh (three), two students each from South Korea and Hong Kong and one each from Japan, the Philippines, South Africa, Gabon, Yemen, the Maldives, Egypt and Pakistan.

UMS also offers 178 places for underprivileged students (B40) who met the requirements set by the University Intake Unit (UPU), he said in a statement here today.

Taufiq said this year UMS also welcomed eight students with physical disability who were placed on the ground floor of the Tun Fuad Residential College to facilitate movement.

He said UMS also welcomed 40 students for the new programme, the Bachelor of Computer Science (Data Science) Faculty of Computer and Informatics.
