NILAI, Aug 26 (Bernama) -- The pair of Anis Amira Rosidi-Ju Pha Somnet sprang a major surprise when they snatched the gold in the women’s team event on the final day of the national track cycling championships here today.

The Perlis duo had decided to compete in the event less than 24 hours before the race but that did not stop them from beating top seeds Fatehah Mustapa-Nur Aisyah Mohamad Zubir of Terengganu.

Anis Amira and Ju Pha clocked 35.609 sec to win gold at the Nilai Velodrome.

"Actually the victory and the time are unexpected...our participation was also done at the last minute yesterday and we did not train for this event.

"I just gave my best...did not expect to beat Terengganu and Selangor," said Ju Pha, who had collected two gold and one bronze medals when met by reporters here.

The pair of Fatehah-Nur Aisya clocked 36.194s to take silver while Selangor’s Farina Shawati Mohd Adnan-Nurqadrina Emylia Norzali came in third.

Ju Pha, 26, won her first gold yesterday in the Omnium event and also clinched a bronze in women’s keirin today.

Anis Amira expressed satisfaction with her performance after winning one gold, one silver and two bronze medals.

"My main aim of entering this competition was to gain experience. The medals are a bonus and I am very satisfied with my performance,” said the 21-year-old rider.

Anis Amira also won silver in the women’s keirin and two bronze, in the individual sprint and 500 metre women’s time trial yesterday.
