KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 4 (Bernama) -- Tan Sri Ghauth Jasmon has been appointed as the new chairman of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Board of Directors.

The Education Ministry, in a statement today, said Ghauth’s appointment was part of an effort to ensure that the target of making UPM the world's 100 best universities could be achieved within the next two years.

“The ministry viewed him as the most suitable person to hold the post based on his good reputation in managing and administering a university, including when he was the Universiti Malaya vice-chancellor,” it said.

According to the ministry, the decision to appoint Ghauth was made after taking into account the views of various parties at UPM.

Ghauth replaces Datuk Seri Syed Razlan Putra Jamalullail.
