LANGKAWI, July 25 (Bernama) --  The status of this tourism island as the world’s 52nd Langkawi UNESCO Global Geopark (LUGG) out of 147 world’s Geopark is certain to be retained for the third time, said Langkawi Development Authority (LADA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Hezri Adnan.

He expressed this confidence based on the detailed planning to receive the presence of two experts namely Dr Kirstin Lemon from Ireland and Sigurður Sigursveinsson from Iceland who would make a revalidation on the LUGG status from Aug 7 to 11.

In addition, the suggestions received during the revalidation process in 2015 were also given consideration to ensure the status was retained, he said at the Oriental Village media conference, here today.

Earlier, Hezri performed three events simultaneously namely the relaunching of the LUGG website page which had been upgraded with improved functions, officiating the special Langkawi Skycab gondola ‘Orbit’, and launching the LADA official vehicle which carried advertisements to promote LUGG to the local community and tourists.

Also present were the LADA Geopark Division manager Azmil Munif Mohd Bokhari and Head of the Department of Administration Support Services of Panorama Langkawi Sdn Bhd Kamarulzaman Shariff.
