Charity concert collects RM80,000 for needy arts enthusiasts

BALIK PULAU, July 22 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia Traditional Orchestra Charity Concert with the nation’s top songstress Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza Tarudin held here last night raised about RM80,000 for local needy arts enthusiasts.

Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik said the  concert which was held at the Prince of Wales International School here, was in conjunction with the Festival Balik Pulau 2019.

The collection was from ticket sales and sponsorship and will be channeled to the MOTAC Trust Fund.

“I do not have the exact figure, but the collection was between RM50,000 and RM80,000. We hope to help 10 needy arts enthusiasts,” he told reporters after the concert here last night.

During the concert, Siti Nurhaliza sang four songs to the accompaniment of the orchestra which was led by conductor Mohd Yazid Zakaria.

Muhammad Bakhtiar said arts enthusiasts in need should be given aid as they had contributed to the field of arts and may no longer active due to age or calamities.

He said he was grateful to all the sponsors as well as Siti Nurhaliza who donated half her fees to the fund.
