Workshop on constructive alignment to enhance teaching method at UMS

KOTA KINABALU,  Feb 10  (Bernama) -- The Business, Economic and Accounting Faculty of Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) held a one-day workshop on constructive alignment yesterday which was aimed at improving the method and quality of teaching of its lecturers.

Chairman of the workshop, Dr Junainah Jaidi said it was also intended to expose the lecturers to the techniques of teaching in lecture halls, tutorial rooms as well as through online blended learning.

“This is part of the initiatives by UMS in enhancing the outcome of learning that emphasises Outcome Based Education (OBE). At the same time, it boosts efforts by UMS to always be in tandem with the Education Ministry’s aspiration to make the university a hub to sow values that can be easily understood and adapted upon students,” she said in a statement here today.

Junainah, who is also the deputy dean (academic and international) at the faculty, said the constructive alignment was implemented to enable lecturers from all programmes to together design teaching and learning activities to produce the intended learning outcomes.

“This is to produce students that are more knowledgeable and thereby enhance their marketability when they graduated. We want to produce graduates that meet industry requirements in line with the government’s objective to produce graduates that are proven able to meet the needs of employers,” she said.
