KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 7 (Bernama) -- Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) has announced a collaboration with the Department of Irrigation and Drainage Malaysia (DID) to share expertise and technology on environmental sustainability.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was inked on Jan 14 by UTP vice chancellor, Prof Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib, and DID director-general, Datuk Dr Md Nasir Md Noh, said a statement today.

It was witnessed by UTP chief strategy officer, Dr Aidid Chee Tahir, and DID human capital development division director, Norizan Abdul Aziz.

UTP’s Institute of Self-Sustainable Building for Smart Living (ISB) and DID will cooperate on coastal hydraulics and offshore engineering, an internship programme, joint research and development activities, staff development programmes, joint publications of research outcomes and more.

“The university is extremely appreciative of the support and we hope that this is the beginning of a dynamic relationship with DID,” said Mohamed Ibrahim.

He said that it is important for UTP to link up with government agencies to remain competitive and relevant.

ISB leads the research and innovation in green and clean (GLEAN) technologies for buildings in the areas of energy, materials, water and waste, and their impact on social and community well-being.

It also seeks to discover inventions and innovations, as well as best practices in buildings and communities, which are sustainable and environmentally friendly.
