Petronas Yamaha SRT unveils 2019 liveries

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 28 (Bernama) - The Petronas Yamaha Sepang Racing Team (SRT) today revealed its livery for its maiden campaign and is set to mount a challenge at the 2019 World Motorcycle Championship.

Petronas president and Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Tan Sri Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin said Petronas is proud to reveal the Petronas Yamaha SRT and Petronas Sprinta Racing liveries, as the unveiling marks a significant moment for Petronas and the Malaysian motorsports industry.

“Petronas involvement in motorsports has spanned decades through our entry in Formula One (F1) and MotoGP. This partnership marks Petronas presence in the whole spectrum of motorcycle racing, from the grassroot level in Cup Prix right up to the international races of MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3,” said Wan Zulkiflee in his speech at the official team´s launch held at the Petronas Philharmonic foyer here today.

Petronas chairman, Datuk Ahmad Nizam Salleh launched the liveries that prominently features Petronas logo and black-and-turquoise green paint scheme on the bikes and rider´s gear.

The Petronas Yamaha SRT team will be represented by 2018 MotoGP Rookie of the Year, Franco Morbidelli of Italy and Moto2 graduate, Fabio Quartararo of France, that will contest onboard Yamaha YZR-M1, which has similar specifications to the factory outfit.

Malaysian and two-time Moto3 podium winner, Khairul Idham Pawi will compete in the Moto2 category under the Petronas Sprinta Racing banner while Ayumu Sasaki of Japan and Scotland´s John McPhee will take on the Moto3 challenge.

Sepang International Circuit CEO and Yamaha SRT team principal, Datuk Razlan Razali said it is important to start and perform their first year well, with the strongest confidence and trust in their two riders, Morbidelli and Quartararo.

“While the new MotoGP team remains as an underdog, we are ambitious in our targets,” he said.

Addressing Khairul Idham at the launch, Razlan said this is his chance to reset, refocus, and they (Yamaha SRT) will help him to be the best that he can be.

“One of these MotoGP seats is for you to take, for you to seize and for you to be the first Malaysian rider in this team. And before you know it, you will realise your dream to be a MotoGP rider with Petronas Yamaha Sepang racing team,” he said.
