KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 14 (Bernama) -- Superstar Rajinikanth does it again, this time with the time-tested offering of an action-packed movie, Petta.

Opening simultaneously worldwide on Jan 10 to coincide with the Pongal Festival, this latest larger than life avenger hero film is distributed by Malik Stream Corporation, the company responsible in distributing Rajinikanth’s Kabali in 2016.

Fans and followers are to be rest assured that the superstar’s latest project is as charming as all of his previous gems, judging by the loud whistles and screams from exhilarated viewers each time he was about to show his moves, during a special screening held at GSC Cinema, MyTown shopping centre last Saturday.

Petta follows the story of Kaali, played by Rajinikanth who takes up a job as a college hostel warden.  His arrival causes suspicions from the college administration as well as the thug who controls the school’s dining contract (whose son happens to be running the school’s bully club, Terror Boys),  especially after the charismatic warden managed to chase the Boys out of the hostel.

True enough, viewers are introduced to a village strongman, Petta (Kaali’s real name) and the reason he ends up as a hostel warden in a co-ed college.

It’s a treat to watch Rajinikanth in action for he is blessed with uncountable funny and memorable moments throughout the films he is cast in, giving fans a feeling of great happiness.

What is the proven formula for a film to be successful at the box office apart from first-rate directing and brilliant performance of the cast? Excellent soundtrack.

Many times throughout the film, the writer caught herself, unashamedly, gawking at the larger than life Rajinikanth on screen, while moving her head to the tunes of Petta Paraak, Aaha Kalyanam and her favourite, Ullalaa.

The film has garnered over US1 billion worldwide in the three days after its release, according to India Today.

Starring popular actors including Vijay Sethupathi, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Trisha, Simran, Megha Akash, Malavika Mohanlal, Bobby Simhaa, Sasikumar and Sananth, Petta was directed by Karthik Subbaraj and filmed in locations around the breathtaking Darjeeling, West Bengal.
