KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 8 (Bernama) -- Some 10 years ago, Les' Copaque Production Sdn Bhd released the country’s first ever 3D animated film, Upin and Ipin’s ‘Geng: Pengembaraan Bermula’ and soon another 3D film to wow fans called ‘Upin & Ipin: Keris Siamang Tunggal’ (UIKST) will premiere on March 21.

This time, after finding a Malay dagger in Tok Dalang’s storeroom called Keris Siamang Tunggal, the cheeky Upin and Ipin are transported to a mythical kingdom where they meet folklore characters like Mat Jenin, Si Tanggang, Bawang Putih, Bawang Merah and Pak Belalang.

“It took a while to complete the film because Les' Copaque wanted to boost the technical expertise of the production group,” said Les' Copaque Production Sdn Bhd managing director, Burhanuddin Md Radzi.

He said the research and technical production of the film costing almost RM20 million and fully using local talent, took five years to allow it a sporting chance against existing animations.

"The production team also looked to technology from Hong Kong to bring the animation and colours alive," Burhanuddin told reporters after the launch of the UIKST poster and trailer at GSC Mid Valley today.

UIKST was helmed by Ahmad Razuri Roseli, Adam Amiruddin and Syed Nurfaiz Khalid Syed Ibrahim who are young directors with experience working on the Upin and Ipin series, Pada Zaman Dahulu and Puteri.

“Each director gave importance to different aspects of the film, like the emotional, action and character developments,” said Burhanuddin.

The film will be released in Indonesia, Brunei and Singapore as well.
