KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 5 (Bernama) -- Salam Web Technologies MY Sdn Bhd and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote a safer online environment that is free from vices and toxic elements.

Salam Web Managing Director, Hasni Zarina Mohamed Khan and UiTM Dean of Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Prof Ir Ts Dr Mohd Nasir Taib signed the MoU here on Sept 18, said Salam Web in a statement.

It said the three-year partnership was designed to provide a learning platform for both students and staff with internship, research and scholarship opportunities and a design competition.

"With a focus on the ethical usage of internet, the programme hopes to encourage industry – academia dialogue, and bolster the development and growth of the Islamic Digital Economy," it added.

Salam Web's Hasni Zarina said, "In this hyper-connected, information saturated era, there is an urgent need to enhance the online experience by weeding out potentially harmful and toxic content."

"Creating a better internet starts with investing in Malaysia’s future – the youth," added Hasni Zarina.

She said by working together with the students and staff of UiTM’s Centre for Computer Engineering Studies (CCES) and Faculty of Electrical Engineering, the company hoped to spark a conversation about technology and provide a safer, more ethical choice when it comes to the online world.

"This is the first step in building a stronger community, rooted with a strong ethical perspective on technology and the internet," she added.
